Hemant Kumar

"Just wanted to say that I am around...you don't have to say anything, I don't have anything to say either. But I am around...just letting you know that I am around"

You just sit next to the person. You don't say all those things, but you mean them, just through the action, through the silence.

As wonderful a job the internet does in connecting people, it falls woefully short at critical points. How do you convey that you around to lend an ear, when it is invariably always in your face, that others are always "available"?

As we continue to adapt and get acquainted with the vocabulary of the constantly evolving virtual world, I wonder whether the email  has come to perform the role of "communicating through silence" - the kind I just attempted to describe above.

It lies in your mailbox, waiting for your wholehearted acceptance, but does enough to get your attention. (Of course, you could re-route it, mark it as read, but it is possible to find analogies to those in real life as well.)

Once you have acknowledged its presence, you can continue to read its contents and it is would be like reading the other person's thoughts.

You may choose to respond afterwards, or delete it, or just let it be. But at any rate, the process is not a conversation. It has to be closer to these moments of silence....or may be its just me.

Bhaap

Chashme ko nazarandaaz kiya karte the,
"Andaaz-e-nazar hai yeh!", keh diya karte the.
Jab tum aate to kohre chhaT jaate,
Is matmaile sheeshe ke jo saaf kar diya karte the!

Aur ab yeh zukaam...

Bhaap lene gaye the, ainak sang liye.
Paani ne socha hoga, "miyan kya mazaak hai yeh!"
Safedi de maari ainak pe, bola "ponch to leejiye!"
Ab chamka ki saaf laptop ki screen ko nahin, chashme ko karna tha!

Baithe rahe tasavvure...

Mausam kuchh aisa tha, ki tassavur kiya tumhe,
Dhoondha idhar udhar, par mile na kabhi humein.

Fursat, kidhar rehte ho aajkal?

Remains of the days gone by...

The case of a :)

It came, it searched
Found him, and whispered
"What's up, doc ?"
But he was as still as a rock
This won't work it thought
He misses her a lot
So "whoooooosh" it went through the ears
And brought back memories of yesteryears
And up it came at the corners of his lips
As he went through each of the clips
And with this ends, this is long forgotten fable
The case of a :) and what its capable.
Now this was fun!
Brought back a :)…..:)

Untitled

Just like she appeared from the side of the lip
'She' came through another tip
I told her not to show up anymore
But she said it was time for her to come to the fore
I requested, I pleaded,
'I am strong', I said, 'I don't need it'
'You need it more than anyone else here'
'I'll comfort you - believe me, my dear'
Felt heavy from within- so I looked inside,
Here ENVY, there GUILT, found SADNESS stacked up at the side,
I don't hate them, but its time I said,
So i let them go, and along my nose they tread.
Mixed in water, and some salt they say,
Taking memories from some not-so-good-old-days,
I felt the stream across my cheek
And I heard an echo "Tears are for the meek"
How wrong I was, but I knew now,
I felt stronger, and I knew how.
"Boys don't cry" maybe thats true,
But men certainly need it, and I, surely do.

Tum saath jo the to kadr na thi,
Ab yaadon ke pitare se ji behla lete hain...

Nayi tasveerein zakhmon ko kured deti hain!

Lyrics

Badi der kar di aane mein,
Ummeed na thi miloge tum.

Hum to gungunaate hi reh jaate...

Tasveer

Woh baithi hain humse nazrein churaaye,
Khafa hain shayad.

Par jaa baithi jo ek tasveer mein,
To bhala kaise manaaye koi!

Frame ko ghumaya, khud ko jhukaya,
Par aankh-micholi khelna chahti hain inki nigahein,

Chalo yeh bhi sahi hai,
Ab itminaan se dekha karenge tumhe.

Na rok sakoge, na tok sakoge,
"Kitne besharam ho!" bhi na keh sakoge,

Kisne kaha tha tasveer mein qaid hone ko!
